Devils Backbone Brewing Company - Outpost Tap Room & Kitchen: A Flavorful Culinary Escape

We arrived on a Saturday in June around 12:00 PM. There is inside and outdoor seating. There are some nice mountains views outside. We were greeted immediately and taken to a table outside (which we requested). It wasn’t crowded when we arrived but within an hour all the tables were taken. Wait staff was good about picking up dirty dishes even if they weren’t your waiter – really appreciate this!!! I am a stickler about dirty dishes laying around. Our waiter was good although he forgot to put in part of our order. He did apologize. We got a couple tastes of drafts before deciding on one. We both ordered the Juicy Magic IPA which was very good. They were serving brunch as well as lunch.. My husband got the quiche that was on the brunch menu. It was vegetarian and good except for the excessive amount of a dried spice which appeared to be oregano. It was accompanied by a simple red onion and arugula with a light splash of vinaigrette. It could have used an extra splash or two because most of the time you were just eating plain lettuce. I got the shrimp tacos. There were three tacos full of large, lightly spiced shrimp on top of lime slaw. It came with tortilla chips and queso. The tacos were downright delicious. The shrimp were the perfect size and cooked just right. The chips appeared homemade and were tasty as well. My husband really enjoyed the queso but it was a bit too salty for me. And like a boomerang, we will be back!

We found this place by accident on our road trip and are so happy we did. The food, the drinks, the view, the atmosphere were all amazing. Laura had some wonderful recommendations and was so friendly and helpful. We will definitely keep this place on our list of places to stop every time we drive thru VA!

We had a bit of a wait to be seated at Devil’s Backbone in Lexington, VA — but once we sat down, it was clear why this place is so popular! The food was absolutely phenomenal — every bite was full of flavor, fresh, and cooked to perfection. What really took our experience to the next level was our server, Dillon. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, Dillon made us feel right at home. He knew the menu inside and out, offered great recommendations, and checked on us just the right amount. It’s rare to find service that’s this on point — Dillon truly went above and beyond! If you’re in the area, this place is a must. And if you’re lucky enough to have Dillon as your server, you’re in for a great time!

Stopped here on the way back to Roanoke. Beer was okay but the food was awesome! I ordered the chicken Sammie and it was perfect! Hot and crispy! We also ordered the nachos and they were very delicious. Super friendly staff. Would def go back!

I’ve wanted to try this brewery for a long time! Timing on our drive never lines up, but today we were able. The beer is great, except I ordered the same beer twice and the beer was very different in color and taste, “because it was the end of the keg”. My only complaint is there’s really no vegetarian options. It was a nice stop along the long stretch of interstate 81 in Virginia.

Loved this spot! Great staff, great beer selection and good food! Great views! Appreciated their flag supporting diversity! Will be back!

Laura is fantastic, amazing service, super friendly staff, food is A+++ (shrimp tacos, beet salad and burger for the dog) and the view outside is breathtaking. So glad we found this place. Definitely go! Oh yes, and the beer was great too.
